Description
This book is written based on our experience conducting wind tunnel testing on unsteady aerodynamics for over the past two decades. Our passion in wind tunnel testing techniques has encouraged us to write this book to share our journey in this specific field with readers. This book presents the effort in introducing a reliable method in estimating the aerodynamic stability derivative for V-tail aircraft in lateral motions focusing on Dutch roll mode using dynamic wind tunnel testing technique. The aerodynamic derivatives may differ from small to large aircraft motion amplitude and may also vary in transient conditions. The discrepancies of static wind tunnel test in representing the aerodynamic stability derivatives during transient condition was also highlighted in this book. Clearly, it is important to establish a method in estimating the aerodynamic stability derivatives accurately. The book is published to provide technical knowledge on unconventional aircraft configurations specifically V-tail shaped aircraft and wind tunnel testing technique at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Low Speed Wind Tunnel (UTM-LST) facility in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai, Johor. This book can be used as a reference in experimental aerodynamic practice as well as to provide the general information on experimental aerodynamics focusing on aircraft stability to readers who are interested in aircraft testing and technological development.
