The book comprises 62 articles divided into four chapters. The first chapter, “Prehistory of Malaysian Chinese: Reflections from the Border to the Margins,” aims to explain the importance of studying Malaysian Chinese history from a transnational perspective. The second chapter, “The Glorious Maritime Silk Road,” discusses the history of maritime development in ancient China (from the Han to the Song and Yuan dynasties) and its connections with Malaysia. The third chapter, “Zheng He’s Voyages to the West,” elucidates the fundamental nature of Zheng He’s expeditions in the history of China’s maritime development. The fourth chapter narrates the story of Malacca: the splendid Malacca Sultanate and its relationship with Ming Dynasty China.

Additionally, the book includes an appendix at the end—a paper titled “The Cross-Cultural Maritime Silk Road and Zheng He’s Voyages to the West,” presented at the “Intercultural Forum—Islamic Culture and Economic Seminar” in October 2009.

This book is the revised Malay and English edition of the author’s 2010 work, “A Collection of Historical Essays on Ancient Sino-Malay Cultural Exchanges.”

Bab ketiga, “Pelayaran Zheng He ke Barat,” menjelaskan sifat asas ekspedisi Zheng He dalam sejarah perkembangan maritim China.
