Description
This book consists of ten chapters focusing on the the earthquake situation in Malaysia. The contents are divided to two parts. First is the theoretical approach and the other on the case studies. The theoretical is discussed on the seismological aspect such as location of fault lines that might have potential to induce earthquake in the future, earthquake waves from the epicenter propagated to the ground and measured as magnitude or intensity which calculated using attenuation equation. Example assessments works and calculation on the vulnerability calculation of earthquake damaged structure is presented in the case studies. The case study was done by researchers from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and researchers from others university in Malaysia. Most of the discussion in this book will be referred at the active seismicity area in Malaysia. The effect of the earthquake loadings to structure is very crucial. The chapters in this book could help students, researchers, and professionals in civil engineering gain an awareness of earthquake activity in Malaysia and the methodologies for assessing performance of structures when subjected to earthquake loadings.
