This book explores the migration determinants, characteristics, and consequences of Indonesian workers in various types of rural settlement in Johor. Questions about the roles of immigrants in rural economy and the society, and the reactions of local people toward them are examined. Studying the immigrants’ roles and reaction of the local people will strengthen discussions on the causal effects of international migration phenomenon while distinguishing local society stigma which has overshadowed the reality of immigrants’ life in rural areas. The book provides an under standing on the contribution of Indonesian workers to rural development specifically in Johor. Malaysia, and the perceptions of local people towards them and its implication to rural development.
