Description

The Human Genome Project has successfully produced DNA sequence of almost 3 billion nucleotides in the human genome, bringing advance understanding of human biology. This sequence alignment is important in analysing the evolutionary relationships between genes and proteins. However, it also brings challenges to biologists and computer scientists to develop numbers of sequencing algorithms with less computational time.

This book starts with detail explanations on what protein sequence alignment is, and its importance in bioinformatics area. It presents the five most popular algorithms which are PAM, BLOSUM, BLAST, PSI-BLAST, and FASTA that are used in gene and protein alignment analyses, including the advantages and disadvantages of the algorithms.

In addition, the book shows the readers on how to use and operate the algorithms step-by-step with the support of graphical examples. Few questions are also included in every chapter to test readers? understanding.
