Description

Daylight, the natural and sustainable source of light, not only saves building lighting energy but also satisfies human physiological needs. It provides a working environment visual comfort that could lead to increase productivity. In tropical regions, the abundance of daylight is yet to be utilised because it is usually concurrent with intense and consistent solar radiation throughout the year. Furthermore, the global illuminance for tropical sky may vary drastically within minutes due to the formation of clouds. Although there are many studies on daylighting in temperate climate, the approaches to design, analyses and optimization of daylight for buildings in tropical regions are expected to be different from other climatic regions mainly due to different sky conditions and the sun positions at locations near the equator. This book discusses the potential use of daylight in tropical regions with a special focus on the working environment in Malaysia. The aim of this book is to provide insights and recommendations for efficient tropical daylighting in office buildings. It includes practical architectural design strategies as well as recent research on tropical daylighting. The book can be used as a reference by professionals as well as students and researchers in building-related industry.
