Description

This research book entitled Carbon for Environment Sustainability is a compilation of research studies from Green Chemistry Group, in Sustainability Research Alliance at UTM, Skudai, Johor. It discusses the basic theories and application of chemistry within the idea of sustainability in recycling of oil palm biomass to useful amorphous carbon.

Chapter 1 explains the word sustainability, global warming and the phenomena of greenhouse effect. Chapter 2 introduces the various types and allotrope of carbon, agriculture industries waste biomass and the utilization of carbon in reducing the greenhouse gas for sustainability. Various techniques of characterization methods which comprises Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, Nitrogen adsorption analysis, Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) Surface Area, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) Electron Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDX) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) are introduced in Chapter 3.

Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 discuss the preparation techniques and chemical characterization while Chapter 6 demonstrates the electronic ability of the prepared carbon. This is highlighted using the Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. Lastly, Chapter 7 provides the conclusion and recommendation pertaining to this area.
