Solid Mechanics

Category:

Description

The Solid Mechanics Module in the SI unit will equip the reader with the fundamental knowledge of this course. The module is divided into twelve chapters. The students are expected to be able to determine the strength and stiffness of structures. The said structures to be studied in this course are bars, shafts, and beams. The applied loadings acted on structures such are axial loads, torsional loads, and transverse loads which will relate to being able to design the beam. Furthermore, the students may determine the mechanical properties of the materials with respect to their strength and stiffness. The chapters in this module contain all the necessary basic material and the standards used however the lecturers will elaborate on all the points considered and may also contain more worked examples. The material of the tutorials is also organised as exercises at the end of every chapter in this module to enhance the student’s understanding of this course.
